My topics and goals for our beautiful city:

Here I present my core topics. Let's get talking, exchange ideas and find solutions together.

Quality of life and the environment

‘The highest levels of life satisfaction are found in cities that have remained familiar, tranquil, safe and green’ (source: SKL-Glücksatlas).

These are good prerequisites for being happy in Lippstadt. The promotion of shopping facilities and quality of life in the city centre and in the districts, attractive green and play areas, opportunities to celebrate together and dealing with the consequences of climate change remain tasks. I want to tackle these so that Lippstadt remains liveable and lovable for all generations.

The Union-Gelände, the area around HSHL and IQ and the city centre offer a promising triangle that we would like to develop further over the next few years. My aim is to optimally network and expand these three areas. With the Autumn Academy 2.0, I would like to revive the successful event from 1988. The aim is to bring together planners, citizens, entrepreneurs and architects to jointly develop ideas for this exciting triangle!

Shaded and green squares, seating, play areas and open meeting places: These are all places where people want to spend time! It is precisely these kinds of places that are currently lacking both in the districts and in the city centre. By unsealing areas and upgrading them in a targeted manner, we want to improve the quality of life – everywhere in the city centre!

Shopping, strolling, enjoying a coffee – our city centre is an important factor for our economic growth. To make it even more attractive, attract new businesses and keep it lively, we would like to continue our dialogue on the future of the city centre. The ideas we have received from residents so far are a great asset!

Economy and digitalisation

Securing and expanding jobs is of central importance.

Mergers, job losses and a lack of successors in long-established companies are a challenge for Lippstadt as a business location. Together with committed entrepreneurs, the course must be set for the future. This includes digitalisation, a modern and service-oriented administration, commercial space management, the promotion of established and new companies and the networking of all stakeholders.

Lippstadt wants to work! We must ensure that jobs are secure. To do this, we need three things:

  • A service-orientated administration that simplifies processes for companies and employees and is the central point of contact for companies (one-stop shop)
  • Good support for existing companies in Lippstadt and concrete support in the search for successors
  • A strong ‘Lippstadt brand’ that attracts both companies and skilled workers

Lippstadt has potential! In order to attract even more companies, we need to expand commercial space. Existing co-operations must be strengthened, for example between HSHL, our economy and educational institutions. But we also need to create new connections! We must not only rely on existing industry, but also think about growing markets in the future, e.g. care and health, warehouse logistics and transport.

Our administration is part of the city. You have to feel that! An important aspect of this is that I as mayor, but also the entire administration, have an open ear. We tackle things together! Be it through on-site consultation hours, through the implementation of projects from the ‘City of Ideas’ or through transparent suggestion and complaint management.

Infrastructure and land use

The construction of a new fire and rescue station is a mandatory task, as is the modernisation of the equipment sheds.

The new town hall is under construction and will form the basis for a modern administration. But Lippstadt needs more: commercial space, a bold and holistic concept for the city centre, a sustainable mobility concept, a path for the energy transition and investment in infrastructure.

Villages have their own rules – and they need to be utilised! I want to create structures for functioning neighbourhood support. Local supply must become just as much a priority as connecting the neighbourhoods to public transport. And the creation and promotion of community spaces must not be neglected either – because without community there is no sense of community.

Lippstadt is on the move: on foot, by bike, by car and by public transport. With a holistic mobility concept that takes all road users into account, a sustainable 10-year plan is to be drawn up, including valid budget planning.

There are many ideas for improving mobility in Lippstadt. Some important focal points for me are

  • Concept for cycling in the city centre (especially Cappelstraße)
  • Parking spaces for cargo bikes
  • Expansion of the main cycle routes from the surrounding area to the city centre
  • Bicycle road between Esbeck and the city centre
  • Expansion of the e-charging structure for residents in the city centre
  • Further development of a functioning car-sharing concept, e.g. involving the city’s vehicle fleet
  • Transport links to the business parks
  • Flexible and cost-effective public transport to the neighbourhoods
  • Further development of the railway station bus station
  • Creating a barrier-free city centre

I would like to try out specific ideas through transport trials – what works in theory but has hurdles in practice? Only by trying things out can we find solutions for transport in Lippstadt that work in the long term.

In our districts, local councillors work hard every day to further develop and strengthen the villages. Why not in the neighbourhoods too? Neighbourhood managers could be a central point of contact for residents and promote the districts in a targeted manner.

The 2024 crime statistics show a decline in offences in the entire district of Soest and also in Lippstadt. Nevertheless, there are some places in our city where people no longer feel as safe. I would like to pay attention to this, e.g. with a greater presence of the city guard and close cooperation with the police.

Society and participation

The many programmes, be it in sport, education, culture or aid services, depend on the commitment of the people of Lippstadt.

Many volunteers complain about too much bureaucracy and a lack of co-determination (see Volunteer Atlas). I would like to promote appreciation and recognition, support neighbourly cooperation, help associations logistically and strengthen open participation processes.

Nothing works without volunteering! As head of the city administration, I would like to support volunteering even more. As a city, we want to be at the side of volunteers as a point of contact and supporter, e.g. when applying for funding or by introducing a city-funded software solution for association management.

A ‘Volunteer Card Light’ with interesting benefits should inspire even more people to volunteer.

The best ideas often come directly from the population! Citizens’ expertise is a valuable tool for the development of our city. With the City of Ideas, there is already a platform where users can put their ideas to the vote. This platform must be further developed and made more user-friendly – right through to the implementation of ideas by the city administration!

I want to ensure that all citizens continue to be involved in the city’s development through measures such as referendums, citizens’ councils and a school parliament. I want to listen to the people in the city during open mayoral consultations, regardless of the town hall. And our future dialogues and district conferences should also continue beyond the election campaign.

Lippstadt is for everyone! But not everyone is yet included in urban design and events. By promoting inclusive housing, especially for young people, creating inclusive playgrounds and an inclusive city administration, I want to create a city worth living in for all Lippstadt residents. An inclusion council as a driving force and contact point should provide important impetus for inclusive projects. How about Paralympic competitions at municipal sporting events, for example?

Education and culture

Skills shortages, integration, climate change and securing prosperity are issues that concern many of us.

All of these issues have a common answer: education. The modernisation and expansion of educational and leisure facilities must be consistently driven forward. As a medium-sized centre, we can confidently develop new cultural offerings with supra-regional appeal.

Lippstadt’s schools are in good condition. Nevertheless, there is a need for refurbishment in the facilities. I would therefore like to start by drawing up a list of measures in order to obtain a clear overview and tackle the necessary work step by step. The construction of climate-resilient school playgrounds and buildings is also one of my priorities, as we will have to deal with more and more extreme weather situations in the future. It is also important to equip schools for the future and to promote ‘new learning’ in order to create an optimal learning environment.

Lippstadt is a tourist magnet! The current tourism concept is working well. We must continue here and also incorporate future highlights, such as Naturtalente Lippe or the Union site, into the tourism concept. In this way, we will strengthen Lippstadt as a brand and our beautiful city will not only remain popular with tourists, but also with skilled workers.

The cultural scene has developed in many ways in recent years and made Lippstadt an exciting cultural city. I would like to expand our events calendar in order to offer all those involved in culture a common platform for their events. Those involved should be able to fill it independently and expand it with event reports.

I would also like to get more young people interested in culture, e.g. with the targeted promotion of young cultural events or free access to cultural events for under-18s.

There is also a lot of structural change to come in the next few years, which I would like to promote and support. A cultural centre on the Union site and a modern city museum are also on my list of priorities, as is the development of a sustainable concept for the Autumn Week.

Another important point: our beautiful Grüner Winkel should be better connected to the city centre! As an event venue and with an open-air stage, it could be established as a new cultural centre.

The most important thing in our city is you! Citizens always come first in all developments and changes. I want to continue to listen and find solutions together with you, whether in further dialogues about the future, through open administration and also through transparent publication of the results of our work in various media. Together for Lippstadt’ remains our motto!
